It is a type of sweet pepper from the eggplant family that can be found in red, yellow, green and orange colors and it is also known as sweet pepper or capsaicin. One of the characteristics of bell pepper is that it is not as spicy as other types of pepper, but its taste is a combination of spiciness and crunchy texture. Among the types of bell peppers, green and purple peppers have a bitter taste, and red, yellow, and orange peppers have a sweeter taste. This plant is native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America and can grow in all types of climates. The seed of this plant was transported to Spain in 1493 and from there it spread throughout Europe, Asia and Africa. Parts of Iran, especially the south of Kerman province, is one of the areas where this product is grown with very good quality.

Green bell peppers, the most common variety, are harvested before they reach full maturity. When left to mature, they ripen into red bell peppers. Orange and yellow varietals are also available. Colored bell peppers are generally more expensive than green ones because they must stay on the plant longer, so they require more time and resources to grow.

If you turn over a bell pepper you’ll see that it has either 3 or 4 lobes or bumps on the bottom. There’s a common misconception that the ones with four bumps are female fruits, and the ones with three are male, and that females have a sweeter flavor. But this is just a myth: bell peppers don’t have gender, and their flavor doesn’t vary by the number of bumps.
